Proxy Instructions for Access to BLS Library Databases
FIREFOX VERSION 2
- Go to Tools > Options > Advanced
- Activate the Network tab
- On the next window, click on "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL"
and enter: http://www.brooklaw.edu/wpad.dat
on the next line.
- Click OK
- CLOSE ALL WINDOWS PROGRAMS
- When you open your browser, you will be prompted to enter
a user name and password.
Use your BLS user name and password for access.

EXPLORER VERSION 7.0
- Go to
Tools > Internet Options
- Click
on the Connections tab
- Click
on LAN Settings
- Check
off “Use automatic configuration script”
- Type
in this URL:http://www.brooklaw.edu/wpad.dat
- Click OK
- Close the window
- When you browse the next web page, you will be asked for
a user name and
password.Use your BLS user name
and password for access.

Safari on Macs OS X
1. Before starting up your web browser, launch "System Preferences..." from the Apple Menu.

2. Select "Network in the "Internet Network" section.

3. Once the "network preference panel od is displayed,
select your connection method and click the "Configure..." button,
click on the "Proxies" tab,
select "Using a PAC file" from the Configure Proxies pull-down menu,
type into the "PAC File URL" text box this hostname http://www.brooklaw.edu/wpad.dat
click the "Apply Now" button,
and quit "System Preferences".

4. You only have to perform steps 1, 2, and 3 once. If you re-install Safari or install a newer version, you will not have to repeat the set up described here.
5. When you connect to the Internet from home via your private Internet Service Provider and start up your web browser to access a web site restricted to Kent State users, it will connect to the Kent Web Proxy Server. The proxy server will prompt you for a login name and password (see graphic above).
6. Enter your login name and password that you use for your e-mail account, if your e-mail address looks like this:
first.last@brooklaw.edu. Your login name, or user name, would be "first.last" in this example.

7. You will only be prompted for your name and password once during a web browsing session, even if you use several different proxied resources.
